The Last Waltz is one of the great concert DVDs. I would recommend any good music fan to watch or get it. This is my favorite song on it. RIP Rick Danko

The question is not so simple I had seen that eight tunning pegs before you posted this (i think you've done so, as i don't think nobody was able to hear or see the strings you're taking about, unless a very good eye is on the work)... The reason i doubt about the guitar model came to me while searching for that Gibson model... I put just a few links down here, that will show you the name could be have less value than you give to it:

Well you can see at the very first second of the video that it's got eight strings so it is a real mandolin. Also the fact that it's got the word "mandolin" in its name is a dead giveaway!

A Gibson EMS 1235 Double Mandolin... I'm not sure the upper neck is a real mandolin, in spite the name... i've read it's a guitar tuned an octave higher
