By the way, your assertion that because they use the name Anna Lee later in the song that the lyric in the chorus is Annie, is laughable and truly ignorant. They sing about many people in that song, Carmen, the Devil, Miss Moses, Luke, Anna Lee, Crazy Chester, Luke the Dog, and my god what is this in the last verse that they sing? "...I do believe it's time to get back to Miss Fanny."

As much as I support the Confederacy the issue that really brought both sides to blows was slavery. The North and the South evolved very differently in the antebellum years and the two sides were headed towards conflict since the ratification of the Constitution. But if there is one thing that was the straw that broke the camels back was slavery.

If you would ever be fortunate enough to move from New Jersey to North Carolina, you'd feel the humiliation and the rise above it as I have. I learned Dixie originated with the Ten dollar notes issued by 'French' Louisiana Banks, the writing DIX (for 10) was found on the back of these notes and were known as 'Dixies' by English speaking American southerners.
