This is kind of a goofy looking design. . doesn't look very aerodynamic either. The kombi has swivel seating, that's not new, the awning idea isn't new either. The thing that's the dumbest part is that the pop-top in this design doesn't actually pop out, it's just the top of the car, but closed off. You're isolated from the rest of the vehicle.

could be wrong but that looks like airbag testing... they test that way the airbag system NOT to deploy in situation the car gets hard bag like after jumping .. have seeen simlar tests from Opel Germany presented by 5th Gear from the UK... they do that rough stuff to the car to make sure the airbag goes only off if realy needed... something you can´t do in labour

You can change the gearing, here in Australia manual gearboxes are very common, usually a big 6 or 8cyl will have a 3-3.5 ratio diff, 4cyls have around 3.8-4.4 depending on the gbox. If you match them correctly you wont have to shift any more/less often

I found that when I change the oil in my 92 Toyota Corolla wagon that if i make sure there is 3/4" deflection on that there belt than i get about 12% gains on MPG. I usually add about four teaspoons of 80/90 to my engine oil and my emissions will decrease and i've noticed that if i wear a light hoodie that my car's weight can compare to that of Nascar. I've stayed up numerous nights calculating how much distilled water i should use in the engine oil,(somewhere between 1-2 gallons i think)Im fast

Great looking front end! Boring? Just look at the stupid American front ends and how ridiculous they are. The golf has great lines, proportions, and looks super tight. Some design elements are subtle, but look closer and see the quality in fit and finish! Americans cars look clumsy and dated and have such big gaps in the panels. VW's, Audis, BMW's all look refined and elegant...like a super model. American cars are so white trash and cheesy!

I think the R32 is slightly faster than the GTI. That heavier engine and all wheel drive put on the pounds and mostly offset the power gain. You will get a much nicer exhaust note with the R32 though. I personally prefer the R32, but that's just me.

Only the japanese can do cars almost perfect and the manufacturers with less production. I currently drive a 3 series. In the past, I owned a Golf when I lived in Germany, and leased a Passat in the States. Until VW improves their quality, I would never buy one. Lease maybe, but not own, this way I get rid of the car before it breaks and I have to pay for it. Of the 36 major brands of cars sold in the US, when it comes to reliability, VW ranks 31. That is terrible. Honda is first, and Land Rover dead least. Hey, it's a fact. VW's are nice cars that are built like crap.

Well i will try to esplain u what u can see in JD Power! In the 2008 quality ratings study, if u make the overall quality by descending. u see in the top, Porsche and in the bottom, Jeep. And VW from the bottom to its position is in 12º over the HUMMER and Scion, dodge saturn. From the top, VW is in 24º, and Audi is in 10º, from the top. And audi's are made with VW parts. The only diferences is the design, nothing more. Just simple like that. So go to a VW/Audi dealer and see the diferences.

I know you don't like the facts, but you must face up to them. VWs are great cars so long as you lease and do not buy them, as they will be spending quite a bit of time in the dealer's service bay. LAst year VW spent hundreds of millions of dollars on warranty repairs. Guess who picks up the costs once the warranties run out? That's right, the poor sucker who is stuck with a lemon VW.

One last thing, the California is a regular wheel based camper where as the Eurovan Camper is extended 15 to 18 inches, which makes quite a big difference. The California is somewhere between the Camper and Weekender. So cutaway a T5 cab and weld it onto a EVC then you have the best of both worlds. Just a thought.

Oh, and the T5 in Mexico comes in Diesel with a 5 speed and it gets double the gas mileage of the USA VW Eurovan with the gas automatic. VW bring back the diesels to the USA. This van gets 30 to 33+/-mpg! The 2009 VW van (aka Dodge Caravan) is going to be the end to the camper, because even if you extend that van like the EVC you still have a small interior in comparison to the 200+ cu ft of the EVC.

You can buy one in Mexico. Mexico has had the T5 for sale for years including the California. Now the USA won't allow you to legally register it in the USA, so the way to get around this is to swap VIN numbers of a Eurovan. (and hope you don't run into a vw van fanatic officer who knows the difference.) Or get a regular T5 van and a Eurovan Camper and cutaway the cabs (swap) for about $10k to do the job. (with VIN number swap of course and hope nobody notices.)
