As a die hard follower of soul greats like Curtis Mayfield, Isaac hayes etc..I generally dont make any time for pop, or even much that passes for Rock. However the Verve cuts through all cultural barriers to win my respect, admiration and even love. Why? Because their best music speak from the soul..and thats what I dig in music. I had to laugh at this...I mean are you for real~? The Verve were one of Oasis' biggest INFLUENCES...which suggests that the swagger of Ashcroft came long before Liam showed his face on the scene. You only have to look at the Oasis song 'Cast no Shadow' and see who it is dedicated to.....the swagger is Ashcrofts lol...not Liam's......read up on your music knowledge ;)

i agree ashcroft is an amzin frontman and a great lyricist but i think nick mcabe was the real genius behind the verve .the first album is well known to be "his" album also simon jones is heavily overlooked. hes as vital 4 the verves sound as mcabe or ashcroft. hes my favourite bassist out there. hes almost like a 2nd guitarist.his playin is so intricate and creative hes also a genius
