He's a bad speaker, so you're getting hung up on irrelevant details (how it helps Linus) while missing the benefits that apply to everything from corporate projects to small team projects and even individual projects. The cheap branching and merging is incredible. Even for a solo dev, the performance, offline capabilities, and variety of tools to manipulate the tree are unbelievable. The reason that you repeat the same notes is because it is a passacaglia *not a canon* he just thought it would be cool to confuse people by calling it a cannon when it wasnt. it just the classic chord progression that is used later in a sh*tload of songs A passacalia is a composition of the baroque period that used a short repeating baseline throughout fortunately for him thats all he gets to play
