You guys should see if you can get your hands on a recording of Gary Karr playing this on double bass. I haven't found a video on here of him playing it (which is a crime), but it is one of the most beautiful bass recordings I've heard. The most impressive part of the performance is he plays it in the same register Yo-Yo Ma does here and with just as much (if not more) expression. I hope to work on it next semester, but we'll see.

because in classical music, every recording is different. The conductor has his intepretation of the piece etc. There is no constant tempo or anything in this music that is obeyed. This is slightly interesting but can also be a horror to relate to. I have like 7-8 recordings of Beethoven's 9th symphony, they are all different, sounds a tad different and the tempo is a bit different as well. One CD lasts 74 min and another lasts 64 min, and 68 min etc.

I've noticed a lot of ignorant comments made here. While I can't address them all, some really irked me. I've seen comments on the dancers being too "chunky" or even "fat" Honestly, if they were too fat do you think they would be doing pointe? Certainly not. Another, something about it lines and not circles. Every ballet is different. Otherwise it will become dull. Each troupe must make it their own and add their own style. Art is art people, if it were rigid then it wouldn't be art.

Watching this today at The Lowry Theatre, Manchester. It was jaw dropping, truly captivating. Ballet Purists will despise this version but I loved it - I can see this appealing to far more people than your average ballet lover because it combines ballet/acrobats/circus/dance/magic/gymnastics. Considering the main lady is a acrobat primarily she was an incredible ballet dancer too. Sorry purists, but classical music and dance must evolve to appeal to the new generation!

Clearly this isn't "ballet" because it does much more than that. It's an artform all it's own that draws from acrobatics and ballet, and even if you're a ballet lover you have to admit this is pretty fucking cool. I mean the dancers/acrobats still have amazing technique and then they can twist their bodies into knots while being hurled in the air. I would love to see this.

There is no need to argue about what this is. It is a highly acrobatic circus performance set to Tchaikovsky's music for the ballet Swan Lake. It combines traditional ballet choreography with impressive acrobatics. I both love ballet and find the skill of these performers amazing. Each has their place.

The creators had already decided that Swan Lee should perform the song, but then Sheryl Crow said that she would like to do the song for the movie. Swan Lee wouldn't let Sheryl Crow sing their song. Swan Lee is incredible... I do like the song by Sheryl Crow that they finally used in that Bond movie (i can't tell them apart) but Swan Lee is something else entirely... What an absolutely wonderful group - their music is SO under-rated and they'd deserve a much wider audience... I can SIMPLY NOT understand why they are not selling millions! INstruktørerne og folkene bag filmen var klar til at lade Swan Lee stå for titelmelodien, men da Swan Lee ikke var et kendt navn i USA blev de vraget til fordel for Sheryl Crow. Imo et rigtig dumt valg da sheryl crows sang er en af de ringeste titelmelodier til en bondfilm nogensinde. Hør dem begge og døm selv hvilken der passer bedst til filmen. Jeg er ikke i tvivl om at Swan Lee's er den bedste af de to.
