J'aime bien le mec en rose, c'est le seul qui tient un discours impartial et respectueux. Le cassage brut, bete et mechant est-il devenu sport national en France? C affligeant cette tendance, ca me rappelle le delire Aime Jacquet. Nice performance! Pharoah Sanders and David Sandborn both take elegant solos. I caught Pharoah live at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach in 1980. He played three long sets. What a rich fat sound he gets out of his tenor. (Guitar player here is indeed the late great Hiram Bullock.)

I saw Pharaoh and Kenny play together several times, they work together really magically. I'll never forget the show at the Blue Note in NYC where Pharaoh went off into his primal,soul yelps for an extended solo and Kenny came in afterwards and just took the whole place to church. It was divine...Definitely check them together if you have a chance.

I saw Don Elias with Sanborn at the Blue Note a few years back. He did a whole unnaccompanied solo with udus and all kinds of great stuff. Absolutely amazing. Sanborn was killer too and so was the bass player. Ricky Peterson? Richard Patterson? Pharoah sounds so at home with these guys in this video. His musicianship transcends boundaries like that.

Awesome movie! Love this guy's character. my favourites were him, Mrs Lovett and Sweeney. Okay he is born on 1993 so he's 15 now (or 14 turning 14, depending on when it's his birthday) this came out in 2007. and they would have started making it in 2006 so he would have been 13/14 when they started filming. that's what i think anyway.

Well Barry didn't quit.He retired.There's a big difference between the two in the world of athletes. His heart wasn't in it anymore and he'll be the first to admit that the way he retired could have been approached better. If you go back in time, when walter payton was drafted in mid 70's..the bears didn't have an offensive line either, (they sucked badly) the bears struggled for years and he didn't quit like barry sanders, I believe barry is better pure back, but walter is better all-purpose back, throwing passes, special teams, vicious blocker, receiver, etc...that drive and determination rewarded him with a super bowl ring..who is better back? both are great, unique and so fun to watch..why compare?

Not to take anything away from Payton but IMO Barry stands out as the greatest of all time for the simple reason that he had no one else on his team. No HOF teammate support and he still put up gaudy numbers. He WOULD have had an unatainable rushing record right now had he chosen so. The Lions are the same organization as they were back when Barry played. Utterly pathetic and the reason Barry left. Their current 0-12 record would have been the norm all those years had he not played for them.

Payton is the more complete back. And thats not just fan bias because i thought long and hard about this before i posted anything. He is the best blocking back in the history of the game, he ran people over like a bull dozer, he wasn't as illusive as sanders but he was still illusive enough to get the job one. He was a one of a kind blend of Power, speed and technique. Not to mention all the touch down PASSES this guy threw. I would rate payton a 10 and sanders a 9.8

I think Sanders actually brought the goods more consistently than Coltrane 65-67...Coltrane has a lot of "bad" solos on those records. Sanders is a genius, but when Coltrane hit it, like the "Live in Japan" Afro-Blue, he nailed stuff Sanders has never gotten. Those solos are like being born and dying. I heard Sanders do a perfect, "moderate" tenor solo on a bootleg version of "Ole," but most of this stuff doesn't excite-excite me.

Been lucky enough to see Pharoah live in London twice over the last year with this line up. First set was OK but second one was amazing - the energy from this performance reminds me of that and when he gets going really puts you on another plant - and scarily makes it look so easy but with so much energy and emotion. My and my friend thought he was doing stuff even coltrane couldn't have but suppose hes had another 30-40 years on him now! God only knows what coltrane would have been doing now!
