I have also problem with motivation. Though it has been better when i started to set up goals to myself and mention this goal to other (then you feel more obligated not to give up). Always do test continously, but not too often of course. That way you have something to strive for. set up a race with friends, or sign up for a competition. Maybe you can set up a scheduel for a month. That will get the train going, and get you addicted to training and used to release energy at those times.

The brain damage in boxing is not caused by being knocked out, it is caused by being punched over and over repeatedly for years on end. I am sure that MMA overall will cause less damage over time among less people, but the heavy strikers of MMA will suffer some damage. It will not be as much as boxing but it will be some. I agree most that are good at avoiding punches (Lyoto Machida etc.) will probably avoid it all together.
