The switching back and forth of the visual elements and synchronicities of looming war, the vibe on the street and the pirate comic. It gets better every time you read it. It is saturated with background detail too. The thing about Morrison is that he throws so many ideas out there that a few are bound to miss. On balance, though, his Vertigo-type work AND mainstream work are gonna be remembered in the same way we look back on a lot of Kriby's stuff. I'm American, and for years, I thought Van was a Black singer. I think that he adapts his accent very well, although I love to hear him talk in his native accent. It's easy to base your opinion on the way someone sounds, but, as I've found, it is much better to do a little research and know what you're talking about rather than just blurting out the first thing you think. I agree totally. This is one of the most beautiful and brilliant songs ever but it falls flat here live. The live version can't capture the magic that's dusted on Astral Weeks version.

yea, he did live near ther in the mid 90's - but his ancestors are of scottish decent- the "irish poet' commentary was due to the fact THEY kept calling him that - it was kind of an inside joke at the time- He makes SOUL records and r & B too but it does not make his heritage or decent BLACK or African... his accent is semi belfast- American-- unless he is doing a wind up...

Insult to him? Why then did he do an album with The Chieftains, and describe himself as 'An Irish Poet' in Dublin (video here in youtube). I think he must have lived in Dublin for while because he has a kind of accent a bit like North of the Liffey.

Sure these song versions are indeed excellent (though on his own website the volume is so low, even when I turn it up I can't really hear it). And his website is kind of sticky when the videos play... stop/start/stop/start... I give him credit. He is in better voice than ever, but I also curse him for destroying fans' websites that were up and running for 10 years and served as resource for his fans. I love Van. Have for years. I do not understand why he has been lashing out lately.
