He didnt shoot it, RTE did. It was for a kids programme, and he complied. Heard that from someone involved peaking on the radio about it. Listen to the full version for the Cockney bit about Covent Garden. Definitely about London. (Which is a shame cos it's a great song, good video and great to see Phil in Dublin). Who is that idiot who thinks it's a song about Dublin? Anyone who knows Phils's music knows it is about London. The album version opens with a cockney talking about Covent Garden, and the album is called Solo in Soho. I think the song is about Phil's early years with his english wife. RTE made this film one time Phil was home, to put with the song on a TV show for teenagers, it was not the video for the song. Next time you hear an 'expert' refer to it as a song about Dublin put them straight.

A few more things, with John Sykes, Gary Moore, Snowy White, Scott Gorham, and Brian Robertson, they've had some of the absolute best guitarists in rock.Try: waiting for an alibi, china town,bad reputation, don't believe a word, thunder and lightning (one of the heaviest rock solos ever), S&M, dancing in the moonlight...lynott's got great lyrics in every genre he touches. with his voice, it's probably that it's so laid back, goes well with scott gorham's lead style (he's on almost every album)

Joe, Here are a few of my observatons about Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynot. Phil was the best known, most influential and talented black person in rock next to Jimi Hendrix. Thin Lizzy is widely credited for utilizing the first successful dual lead guitars (check out the Cowboy song). Catholics and Protestants alike loved them in Ireland (and that's a tough sell over there). VH1 lists them as 51 on the 100 top hard rock bands of all time. Do more research, you will come to appreciate them.

I'm not sure i quite "get it" about Phil's Voice. Is it that he has a tenor with low tone and that he speaks his lyric more than he sings it perhaps? I've never given Thin Lizzy a chance but I've recently gotten into Sykes. I notice too that Phil Strums his bass like a guitar. I'd like to hear a few comments on why Phil's voice is special to you fans and what else about Thin Lizzy is cool. Phil did have asthma, but it was always made worse when he was hitting the drugs hard. Which was pretty much solid for the last few years. His system took a hammering particularly from heroin, cocaine and alcohol, but he also consumed a lot of amphetamines. He also smoked and smoked marijuana from the early days. He wasn't the healthiest chap. But what a talent.

I'm SURE this has been addressed. That is a 1959 Les Paul Cherry Sunburst. The cherry has faded to UV rays (or just general age) so it only retains the golden yellow (NOT GOLD TOP) finish. It's a marvelous instrument though.

I don't think Phil was talking about attacking in a pysical sense. My interpretation of the song was he was saying that the Japanese are far superior in technology than any other nation. Renegade was/is a fabulous album. Phil does not sing,he tells a story.Ok he sings but I'm just trying to make a point. He does cram a bunch of words in a line where anyone else would sound akward doing so. I love every Thin Lizzy album.I need to look into his solo stuff next. And JoeLynnTurner, Thin Lizzy are fantastic. Not only is Phil full of charisma, but the musicianship (particualarly in the peak years of 76 - 79) is awesome. They looked cool, dressed great, and had their own sound. Best records: Jailbreak, Black Rose, Live & Dangerous, Bad Reputation, Johnny The Fox, Fighting - in that order. The post 1980 stuff gets a bit crapper. Phil started a bad heroin habit in 79, and the music/lyrics suffered. Replacement guitarists were nowhere as good either.

Hey JoeLynnTurner, here's why Phil's voice is so fricken' awesome & good examples: i)- His delivery is so cool and recognisable. He sings each line differently, and will cram a million words in sometimes where there's only room for 5. (Boys Are Back In Town) ii) Chicks find his voice very sexy. (The Rocker) iii) He's got a great range (Romeo & The Lonely Girl) iv) His double tracking vocals and all of his backing vocals are amazing. (Fight Or Fall).

I disagree. It's not all upbeat like his other stuff, so after awhile it's like okay, I can't listen to this like his other albums, but it's actually full of beautiful, melodic work (just like his other albums). I only have the album for 4 days so my full opinion hasn't really been established. That being said, this song is actually beautiful and it never gets old. Sounds just like a Thin Lizzy song.

I agree. I never go around saying any band is the best band ever, but there's no doubt about it - Thin Lizzy are the most underappreciated band ever. I can't believe that they never got bigger in America. I know Gary Moore left mid Black Rose 1979 tour, but their record label must have done shit all for them as I can't believe that album wasn't big there, or songs like Dancing In The Moonlight & Don't Believe A Word - very weird.

I saw Lizzy live twice, at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, Ma. Bad Reputation tour, They opened with Soldier of Fortune with all the house lights on, and then boom, colored cans turned on then right into Jailbreak. Crushed the place. 2nd time at at nightclub the Paradise also in Boston. Stage is about 3ft off the floor and your right up against the stage. "Black Rose" Roisin dubh, was played by 5ft in front of me,,, I was talking to Gorham in between songs, I'll never forget either show.
