Maria McKee is one of my favorite vocalists; very unique and beautiful voice. She has had a couple of songs on movie soundtracks that are very good - 'Show Me Heaven' from Days of Thunder and 'Never Be You' from Streets of Fire; both are excellent. Mrscarpachie, you just about summed it up. Grant is an amazing guitar player. I've seen him around 6 times or so, by himself, with a backing band, etc. But I think I loved his solo shows the most. He's such a great entertainer. He's hilarious. And he does a crazy-awesome Willie Nelson impersonation. I wish I had seen GLB back in the day. One of my greatest musical regrets.

Wow. I'm an idiot because I compared two rock singers. I learned my lesson. I'll never do that again. Lol. I was just responding to other comments that compared Pearl Jam to GLB. In my opinion, there is no comparison. I think PJ are talented musicians, but most of their music is, to me, derivative, boring and played-out.

This song is about a the Waco Seige of the Branch Davidians by the ATF. It lasted 51 days ended with a fired that consumed the entire compound in less than a half hour. I have heard one or two others compare GLB to Pearl Jam - but never anyone who has listened to GLB more than once / twice. I think the comment comes from recognising Phillips' deep voice, and the bands were around at same time. That's where comparisons end for me.. it doesn't recognise the range of Phillips' voice... no insult intended above poster, but I think its an uninformed observation. GLB had just what you say they should have had - a music all of their own.

Wow what a kiss-off to the ATF and the Government for their involvement in the Koresh killing in Waco, and other actions too, great protest song, well done, and doesnt come off as preachy like other protest songs, and i hate protest songs, funny!!!! GLB are totally original not PJ knock-offs!! And personally im glad they never blew up, not a lot of people know about them and thats the way i like it!

Says who? Johnny Gimble didn't join the Texas Playboys until 1949, and Keith Coleman was an even later addition (c. 1953). This film was made in 1940, when Leon McAuliffe was still with the band, and yes, that is Bob Wills playing the Lone Star Rag.

Eric, spot on fella... shivers down the spine and a tear in my eye. An amazing vocal and how she managed to sing any more songs for a week after this I'll never know.Saw her a few years back at 'Dingwalls'- London.... just a stunning performer, all this and "sex on legs" too!! ohmigod i was at the madison square garden show for that tour! when LJ came onstage the arena was barely half-full and the fans that were there were booing the shit out of them! maria didn't give a fuck though...she spitting(?)in b/w songs and riding a skateboard too! No way, not even close man. I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, and I changed the speaker for it to sound better, and it does sound really nice, but it doesn't touch a Mesa. Mesas are not production line high priced amps, they are all hand made and perfect. It's a shame that Marshall amps suck and are so inconsistent nowdays. they used to be awesome, but now they suck, and are waaaaay overpriced.

when he's holding that note at 2:45: and then it starts to fade and at 2:47 it gets almost a feedback sound coming out of no where HOW DOES HE DO THAT?!?!?! do u hit like a certeain spot and get a harmonic or something. One of my frets if if i do a very exagerated vibrato it goes form a normal note to like a pinch harmonic sound without touching it but i thought the fret was just messed up. how does he do that please help!

very nice tone indeed. however, since i dont have over $2000 to blow on a mesa i think ill just get a fender blues deluxe and put a digitech grunge in front of it for heavy stuff. if anyone ever tried that combo, please tell me how it sounds lol
