I understand the religious point of view, the bible says in many places that homosexuality is an abomination, but not everyone believes in the god of the bible, and passing laws for which the only justification is a religious text is a violation of the US constitution. You have the right to feel a certain way, but as soon as you start trying to force those religious beliefs on others, you are crossing the line. If religions don't want to be criticized, they shouldn't play in politics.

I actually prefer a slight modification of the golden rule, that is Do onto others as they would have you do onto them. That way if someone happens to be into some things that others wouldn't like they aren't imposing that desire on others. jp, morals don't come from some spooky father figure in the sky, they come from us. And guess what, religion is the main opponent to gay marriage, therefore its position is going to be the one that is attacked. Gay marriage is wrong just like murder is wrong. Ethics come from the Bible. If it doesn't, then where on earth does right and wrong come from? I know people who think killing for revenge is okay while others don't. For those who don't believe in a transcendent law, then they can't really have any say about it because it's just arbitrary and subjective based on their emotions or individual belief. Gay proponents can't say murder is wrong because murderers would say the same for gays.
