Similar to how you have to prove you won a car, you should have to prove you own a gun, so that you can't simply sell the gun and that's that. And when you get into guys like paul gilbert and jason becker your playing has to be much more technical than kirk hammets crap. Hammet relies on a wah and high gain to cover up his crappy playing and his vibrato is the worst on the planet.
