Also, there are others that are FAB writers & singers (Lennon, Carpenter).He CLEARLY can't sing. i see what you're saying but daniel johnston has a similair genius to that of kurt cobain: a very simplistic style that keeps people coming back. writing a simple song that speaks to people and stirs up strong emotions in them is definately harder than it looks. so you're right, he does not have the fingers of hendrix, he has a different kind of genius. its hard to explain. i don't think i could really tell you why i keep listening to the same songs over and over by him.

Yes Johnston's voice and guitar work are lacking but the songs that he wrote are honest and pretty damn cool. I noticed on RE1206's page you have a cover of M.Ward's Vincent O'Brien. M Ward lists Daniel Johnston as one of his influences, Bright Eyes did a cover of "Devil Town". If you want to be a good songwriter you have to look past production value and listen to what the artist is trying to get across. However if your not a songwriter than I understand why this wont make sense.

no, I'm totally with him. I don't get Daniel Johnston at all... he sounds pretty talentless, to me. I mean, it's nothing spectacular, the production qualities are extremely low and it's just... eh. His music is fairly uninspiring, the only good thing about him is his ethos. The guys' got heart in spades and that's what's awesome about him.
