...a couple of issues: 1. Whose/what side you're on explains your perspective. 2. I like good writing and TV entertainment too, But I don't grab slices of fictional TV figures' opinions to use as a moral code. 3. I referred to it as graffiti in so much as it's from TV programme, no more - no less, it's not reality. 4. If Britney Spears or Homer Simpson, for example is 'aired' at 9pm on Wednesdays.....does that make her thoughts just as meaningful..?
By: DreamerM. on 01 Dec 08, 08:04:05
How is what "side" I'm on relevant to my comment? I respect good writing wherever I find it. It was all over the first four seasons of the West Wing. Don't call it "graffiti" because it aired at 9pm on Wensdays. And "Gay" is not a lobby. There are gay activists who champion gay rights, but that is not the same as a lobby.
By: noaley1. on 01 Dec 08, 04:57:34
this video is awesome. being gay is not a sin.
By: DebbieDermot. on 01 Dec 08, 00:15:45
Not sure how to reply.....your ID site looks like you're a bit intense. Are you on the side of the scriptwriters, the christian fundamentalists or the gay lobby...?
By: DreamerM. on 30 Nov 08, 20:03:25
If you HAVE to believe Homosexuality is an abomination in order to believe killing is wrong, then there is no hope for you.
By: DreamerM. on 30 Nov 08, 19:59:30
Why? Why can't a TV show be meaningful? We allow books to be meaningful, poetry... Someone put pen to paper to come up with these lines. They are powerful lines. TV doesn't change that.
By: Dream23fb. on 30 Nov 08, 01:55:56
Slice and dice.
By: norqvader. on 30 Nov 08, 00:21:56
Yes. We should not stone homosexuals...duh. Sin is still sin, that means people who sin, don't suffer a death(in this life) as a result of it. You still have to put your faith in Christ and repent, or God will judge you and send you to hell...Without the blood of the cross, there is no atonement of sin...JESUS is the point of the WHOLE Bible. That is why Christians should not support the death penalty. There is a difference between calling something a sin, and condemning them to death. PM me.
By: Subotan. on 29 Nov 08, 23:06:24
1. Homosexuality has the death punishment in Leviticus, as does wearing clothes from two different threads. You said that the death penalty was "abolished" (For lack of a better word) by Jesus dying on the cross. Surely this applies to homosexuality as well; it just wouldn't be right to ignore bits of the Bible we don't like and apply them when it suits us, especially in the same paragraph.
By: norqvader. on 29 Nov 08, 14:34:53
1. Yes, it IS a sin 2. Proverbs says the borrower is slave to the lender...if you co-sign a loan for your daughter, you sold her into slavery. 3. Stoning, killing...whatever was accomplished when Jesus died on the cross. He took the punishment for our sin upon himself. So, those punishments are no more...but the law remains. 4. Footballs are made with cowhide, so, gloves or no gloves.doesn't matter. I enjoy the West Wing, but President Bartlett and I would've had a great theological debate.
By: karenna7. on 29 Nov 08, 04:26:47
And his office in outlined in article 2 of the constitution. Maybe you should read it or better yet read some American history to understand the significance of the president's role in history.
By: karenna7. on 29 Nov 08, 04:24:26
You're a fool. The presidency is the highest office in the land and all must stand for him or her. It respect for the office, not the person. The president is the symbol of the nation. By standing you are demonstrating your untrammeled respect for the nation.
By: ch5342. on 27 Nov 08, 14:46:34
So now some things dont apply now because you say so, but to push peoples hatred towards homosexuals, THEN those things apply? How about religious right, fanatics, wackos or whatever you want to call them stop using the bible to hate others. If not, join Fred Phelps. Hes a champion in basing hate on the bible.
By: atobpe. on 27 Nov 08, 04:11:20
So much for freedom of speech.
By: alrobin. on 27 Nov 08, 03:40:10
The thing about those verses that were quoted and the reason they were brought up is to illustrate how those laws of Moses were mostly appropriate for that era. The major laws and outline for living a holy still remains the same. Even though we don't stone adulterers anymore according to the New Testament, sexual immorality is still frowned upon. WWJD? Folks were converted through messages of love and forgiveness, not through condemnation.
By: DebbieDermot. on 26 Nov 08, 21:31:58
I last visited this clip at least 6 months ago and I can't believe it's still stimulating such humbug comments.. ..actors reading scripts....written by anonymous authors....on an entertainment TV programme....taken as influence on how people live their lives, it's a TV programme, just graffiti.
By: ch5342. on 25 Nov 08, 14:36:21
DAMN! Wrong comment for this video LOL
By: ch5342. on 25 Nov 08, 14:33:48
UNBELIEVEABLE! These people have no shame, do they? They strip away rights of a minority, then when that minority gets angry back at them, they yell religious intolerance! Also, MANY people of MANY religious background where behind the NO on 8 campaign. Those are the true faith people who understand that religion is not to be imposed on everyone. Kudos to them. But this guy and his rhetoric is amazing. Basically they could do anything, and everyone should be worried about this, not gays only.
By: ch5342. on 25 Nov 08, 13:49:09
HOLY SHIT! That woman got owned!! Are we still going to talk about the biblical reason to ban homosexuality? Because Im gonna point everyone to this video and to the article "Why Can't I Own a Canadian?" which I believe this scene dialog was taken from. BRAVO!! Religious freaks: SHUT UP!
By: Samc023. on 24 Nov 08, 06:18:12
EADGplr Excellent points. Since slavery predates the written Bible, many people fail to realize that the Bible was simply recording what was the norm of that day, and took into account in their welfare. The same thing can be said about polygamy, never did the God of the Bible personally sanctioned it, but it was nevertheless tolerated until the original standards were once again restored in the New Testament .
By: EADGplr. on 24 Nov 08, 05:00:58
part 1 The Bible does not specifically condemn slavery. It gives instructions on how slaves should be treated, but does not outlaw the practice altogether. Many see this as the Bible condoning all forms of slavery. What many people fail to understand is that slavery in Biblical times was very different from the slavery that was practiced in the past few centuries in many parts of the world. The slavery in the Bible was not based exclusively on race.
By: EADGplr. on 24 Nov 08, 04:58:12
part 3 In New Testament times, sometimes doctors, lawyers, and even politicians were slaves of someone else. Some people actually chose to be slaves so as to have all their needs provided for by their master.
By: Samc023. on 24 Nov 08, 02:57:43
Thus any kind of sexual misconduct is highlighted and mentioned in the New testament whereas none of the strict laws of the Mosaic Law is valid in regards to the new covenant shellfish can be eaten, cloth can be mixed etc, yet the law for homosexuality or any sexual conduct outside remains unchanged. Essentially this clip is arguing something even the Bible itself deemed no longer valid, of course the writers missed that trying to promote their propaganda.
By: Samc023. on 24 Nov 08, 02:51:30
" important part of the clip is where he destroys the biblical argument against homosexuality." Not really, He failed to recognize that the Mosaic Law was given to the Nation of Israel. Cloth mixture was seen symbolically as setting apart, which Israel as a nation was set apart from others, if you read deeper into the scriptures cloth mixture was seen in the Tabernacle cloth, the sabbath was also used in reference to holiness, unlike these things sexual conduct TRANSCENDS the Old covenant..
By: Averyofthemain. on 24 Nov 08, 01:16:47
She should have answered, "I want to kill your sec. of state, if I do I know you won't have me arrested but just like those things you mention the bible's prohibition on murder must be equally old fashioned.
