You are way over doing it. There is an easy way to split a clip. Just select the amount of video, right click on it, then select "split clip." You're just used to the old iMovie and there is a way to have the same quality in the new one.

Don't stay with iMovie '06.. The guy in this movie has "Overlooked" iMovie '08. For example... You can split a clip by drag selecting the clip you want to split, and choosing "Split Clip" from the Edit menu.

Ummm Dude I know you are a die hard iMovie HD user.. however.. I've discovered that you can really do alot of things in iMovie '08 that you can in iMovie '06. You mentioned.. You can't Split a Clip.. Well.. you can.. You just drag select the area.. and choose "Split Clip" from the "Edit" menu. What's the problem. You guys are a bunch of winers.. iMovie '08 is a Decent program once you get to know it. I have a feeling more upates will make it better than HD '06

i use imovie 08 and i think its great coz it brings in an all new way of editing movies. By the way it does have a timeline(different look). U can see the length of your movie right there. Steve jobs was right for mentioning the GOOD STUFF ABOUT IT BUT HE DDNT MENTION THE BAD STUFF ABOUT. Imovie 08 has few effects and traditions, etc..., Posting to youtube is good feature but its quite slow. Overall for quick, simple movie editing, i choose imovie08 anytime.

Yep, I've been using iMovie 06 for a very long time now and I just installed 08 to give it a try yesterday. Hell it couldn't even launch! Got me quite pissed but Apple did make customers happy by giving us a free download of iMovie 6.0.4. So.... can't say they did nothing. I'm happy with 06!

I Completely agree with you Blunty....I love imovie'06...It definitely will give big-money software a run. I was about to upgrade to '08 and then realized that they took the timeline out!!! If your just learning to do video...thats something you can get by with out...but once you have the elementary basics down.....YOU GOT TO HAVE A TIMELINE!!! Trying to edit video without a timeline is like an artist trying to paint without a canvas!!!! It is the quintessential element to video.

And all of the other "iLife '08" applications are not worth the $80? By the way, the version of "iMovie HD '06" that Apple offers for download is version 6.0.4. This version is only available for "iLife '08" users, while "iLife '06" users are stuck with version 6.0.3. In the end, the $80 are definitely worth it! :D -The One

I HAVE A PROBLEM! The play head, the thing you move to the place you want to watch, shaped a bit like a Y,Moves too slow! When the clip ends, the playhead isn't at the end of the clip yet! It ruins my movies, because it ends at the wrong time by 2 minutes!

Yeah, it's from iLife, so Apple decided that only their computers can use it. Don't worry, you're not missing much, iLife is just basic programs, imo for movie editors you're better off using Windows Movie Maker 2 then iMovie though.

I think in iMovie 08 it saves your projects automatically on the fly. For the delete part, highlight the project file in the project Library and hold down the command key and delete.

i have a problem with imovie08. When i finish recording with my isight in imovie08. I press stop button and then done button. But the second after i pressed the done button, imovie just freezes. ok heres a kinda tricky way. download AUDACITY for mac once youve made your iMovie video, export it as an MP3 file. open it in audacity and change the pitch, then go back to imovie and bring in the changed pitch MP3 and play it over the top of your video. its kinda long winded but worth it, audacitys a really good programe to have

I very much enjoyed your video. I was an avid '06 user and recently got '08. I am trying to find out how to go back to '06. There are many more options in '06 so you can be more creative. '08 is good for quick movies with very little editing and would probably appeal to someone new to video editing.

im a new switcher. altho i've never used imovie 06 but in terms of editing it's similar to win movie maker even its layout. Thats why i like imovie 08; easier and quick. its totally different, its timeline is wide and you can see your whole video without having to zoom or zoom out like in imovie 06. But imovie 06 hs more features.

I'm wondering, instead of exporting the importing the movie and trimming the edges, why didn't you just put in a second of two of black (or white) at the beginning and end. This would give time for the png to fade in (and it would save you the hassle of importing and exporting.)
