Thx for posting this - I feel yr pain! I moved to Dunedin from Wgtn a year ago. The drivers are far worse down here - it's like many of them have never seen a sub/urban cyclist before! I don't drive a car, but I suspect that many of the close calls are down to drivers not being able to judge how fast cyclists are travelling, so they see a gap where there isn't one. Maybe there needs to be some education here, eg if the cyclist is

Riding a meter out from the curb is both legal and the safest place for a cyclist in trafic. If you have ever read the book called Cyclecraft: Skilled Cycling Techniques for Adults by John Franklin you will know this is the primary cycling position. When cars overtake a cyclist they have to leave as much room as they would if overtaking a car as stated in the highway code. Is this done NO. Get your facts right Zerthic so what if a car has to wait a few seconds to overtake safely.

The fact is quite clear that cars need to be more aware of cyclists. Why? Price for a cyclist being run over by a car = death/serious maiming. Price for a car being run over by a cyclist = dented car. If you are driving 1-5 tonnes of steel/rubber and oil that is helping to destroy the planet, you should certainly have to pay some price for your laziness. If that means looking out and even giving way to cyclists - that's definitely a cost you should bare.

christchurch have a real problem, maybe its new zealanders altogether. a lot of people think they own the road. a lot of people forget there are other drivers. because you drive a 4x4 on the street doesnt mean you deserve to be first. you people are so rude!!! grow a soul. cyclists! you loose lots of respect by riding closer to the centre of the road then to the pavement, forcing drivers to move onto or past the centre line. how can you be sure everyone sees you? dont cycle where cars drive!!

Nice video. I prefer to bike to work than drive in Christchurch, I agree there are some silly cyclists but man I've had some ****heads in motorvehicles too. Also seen some pretty good altercations when a driver cuts somebody off, and if my life ever gets put in danger by DANGEROUS driving, I don't mind kicking a rearview mirror or adding a nice key scratch to their car.

Anyone notice the mazda at the end was indicating out, that the cyclist passed very narrowly? The cyclist wouldnt've needed to wait for the car to pull out, as soon as it had started to move there would be room on the other side. It'd also make things a bit clearer if what was going on behind the bike was shown too.

The worst drivers/cyclists I know are the ones who think they ought to be able to do anything they like, as long as it's technically 'within the law'. These people should realise that there's alot more to good driving than that. The cyclist who made this video should attend a 'defensive cycling course'. This is not a personal dig, but some serious advice. Btw, I'm not saying there weren't some cases of bad driving in these clips either. The guy towing the car - a bloody moron!

This video is misrepresenting cyclists. I see more bad cyclists than motorists (ratio wise). Riding a meter out from the curb, or two abreast (yes it's legal, but should it be?) which slows traffic to 15km/h (if you're lucky) or forces cars into oncoming traffic. Then there is the rows of 10 riding two abreast (in rush hour, they can't all be going to work). For a REAL example of a cyclist search 'Bike ride through Christchurch city' why don't they show that in the news? Oh, that's the media.

Dangers in Christchurch is just like any other city in the world, ofcourse there are drunks around at night time but during the day it is very safe. And to say the NZ police are doing nothing about it is crap they have cameras monitoring the inner city 24/7 not to mention the 8-10 officers on beat. If theres any trouble the offenders are usually tracked down.

I lived in Christchurch for a number of years but recently the inner city has become unsafe in my opinion due to drugged up teenagers doing what ever they feel like , chasing people and generally causing trouble , The NZ police do NOTHING about it and from what I can tell are basically underfunded and over worked. Its a shame as it IS a lovely city . you just have to be aware there is always that holigan attitude there.

when you sing in a choir, sometimes you can't carry the right tune from the beginning of the song to its end. And when you go out of tune, you usually go flat (down). It's very rare to go sharp (up).

Well played CLive. It's a jolly Scherzo. Just one thing though no TV monitor in the Rieger Console then ? unless it's broken and your waiting to get it replaced. Also, I did hear of the unfortunate incident of the hot air blowers that were use when the Church heating had broken down. Some of the delicate Reiger mechancial action was not working . I LOVE this piece altho one of my organist friends thinks it is too "Victorian"; but then he is quite the Francophile and would probably love this instrument since I've heard other organists say this organ really more suits the French pieces (I love Durufle BTW). Anyway, Clive Driskill-Smith is a terrific organist and I've had the great pleasure of hearing him play the Gabriel Kney at Grace & Holy Trinity here in Kansas City, MO.

I agree. And the flues sound a bit french. It's not a very convincing organ, I think, a bit a comprimise of German, French, and English elements, heaped up in one organ. I'd prefer still having the original Willis or whatever it was, and just have added a new organ in the Quire of the Church in another style. Or just leave it!! Even better! We've got plenty of organs in Oxford, right?

Great sounding neoclassical instrument. Sounds somewhat German. I do Miss the big, Big, BIG Heavey English Reeds though. Very skilled musician. He looks more like a rugby player than an organist but I won't hold that againt him...LOL;)

This is the graduation ceremony of Canterbury Christ Church University 2006-2007 at the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral. Processional music is Fanfare for a Congregation conducted by Grenville Hancox MBE; performed by the Brass Ensemble of the Music department.
The ceremony was opened by the Bishop of Dover Pro-vice chancellor Stephen Venner. Presents are mayors, VC and Deans.
