this is really not an intimate environment. I love google, but they're better developers than actors. In my dreams, google masters the art of remote intimacy, outside of the search engine. Thanks for the video, I'm really excited about open social... But this series of videos (and most of googles videos) is not as carefully planned as google's products.

Yeah I laughted my head off at that comment about myspace. I guess when they called their CSS classes whitetext15 and then promptly changed it to 18 blue text :-) That was them making it easy for users to customise :-D Or when they sued all the companies that help u customise their poor CSS. One interesting thing about all these websites having one common API: it doesn't just make it easier to develop k3wl w1dg3tz. It makes the sites easier to *crawl*, MAKING SEMANTIC SENSE OF IT. Aha, Google, aha. No need to write a custom screen-scraper for each site, in order to extract relationships.

Use Django which can be deployed in a bunch of environments and basically plugs into Google App Engine... The IP issues are non-existent, of course you own your own code. Python is a fine choice for a web scripting platform, but other languages are coming.

If you want this to be successful you need to have beginner tutorials. You start off saying how much easier you make it for everyone, some guy starts coding python in a way I've never seen it done before. I've taken python tutes and did well - but I'm a 10 year PHP, JavaScript and ActionScript developer so I'm going to need a lot better overview of what you're doing. Does anybody know a site that explains making google apps? Please don't link basic python tutes, I've already done those.

One of the best films I have seen in a long time. And Daniel Day-Lewis. I really don't know what to say. His talent and brilliance is beyond words. My love for films has been magnified even more after seeing TWBB. Now this was a damn good horror if I've ever seen one. I say it's good because it put me off the thought of backpacking anywhere in Australia for a good year or so after I saw it. :D They made a great choice in getting John Jarratt to play the bad guy, too; he gave me the creeps instantly. And I don't really get how Aussie accents are hard to understand. I can make them out fine.

If they are really looking for more developers though they did a good job picking one of the two fastest growing languages on the web (python and the other even faster growing language would be ruby). Java has it's places, but in terms of web programming it takes a lot of the fun (and development speed) out of it ... and that is OK, it was not built for that type of development.

Which is silly, of course. There is no single language that is best for everything. It's also worth mentioning that this marks Google's first shipped "must use Python" service. A couple other language-specific things that Google has shipped both use Java: Android and GWT. Having said that, my money is on Java as the next language environment they make available for this service. It's heavily used within Google, and is a no-brainer to get a huge number of web app developers using the service.

I feel like i shouldnt be there watching it you know? probably one of the most beautiful scenes ever committed to celluloid. And i read that River Phoenix wrote the whole thing!
