Correct. With this grip it is designed for strength on the OUTSIDE mallet unlike the older cross grip which tends to be stronger on the inside mallet. This places the dominant melodic mallet in the strongest position. The left hand is not quite as active or as strong in terms of its requirements in common playing. Outside and inside is ok as is 2x insides. 2x outside means the insides are floating in each other's way. Using the strongest mallet for the primary melodic line makes sense. ;-)

I think many here are suggesting that any grip where the mallets cross in the palm of the hand is called crossgrip. Its a reasonable label, but not strictly accurate. Movement of the thumb over the mallet as you are suggesting is INDEED only a variation of the grip and I agree should not be considered a different grip. There is still a misunderstanding. The original cross grip is different in that the shaft of the inside mallet passes UNDER the outside mallet rather than the other way around.

But, the pros don't use that triplet concept... they swing based on their own personal feeling... it has less to do with mathematics. If you compare the swing of Lee Konitz to the swing of Michael Brecker, or Chick Corea's to Wynton Kelly's, you'll see that they swing in different degrees, so to speak. Swing also has to do with the dynamics and the articulation of notes. I've heard Chick say that Mozart's music swings.

well for starters the swinging of notes is actually just a shortened version of writing different rhythms, more closer to 12/8 then 4/4 or whatever you use. it is really just simpler to read 4/4 and say the notes "swing". another thing, however you want to play the music, cool, as long as it sounds good. i didnt really even hear a swing anyways so...

I was listening sir. My point is that Kevin Smith may know his comic books, but, because he's nearly 40, it's not something to be proud of. I maintain that Burton is a far better film maker than Kevin Smith. Granted, Smith can write quite good dialogue though. Batman '89 is still the second greatest Batman movie.

Who says you have to be depressed, or emo to love Tim Burton? I'm neither, but i'm a huge admirer of him, that's just a stupid steryotype that people stuck on him. Think of how steryotypical you're being before you speak. And i have seen many of Burton's movies: Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Big Fish, and yes, the ever popular Nightmare Before Christmas are some of my favorites, i'm not someone that claims they're deicated to something they're not.

The term fangirl is a female who is obsessed over some type of person/media which could be based on the 'hotness' or the thoughts/actions.You can't tell me that Nightmare Before Christmas hasn't become an emo kid staple. These are the same kids who claim to love burton but have ONLY seen that movie, or the more recent Corpse Bride or Sweenty Todd, both I like. Look, children, I like both Burton and Smith and they both contribute something to their fans that seems to work because both have a huge fanbase. That said, chill out. Just because you admire and love a celeb doesnt mean that no one should ever talk about them EVER and they're gods. Theyre not. They'll be the first to tell you that. well it was episode 4 in season 3-the Halloween episode at TRIC and I just danced and stuff and "pretended" to be at the party. It was so much fun! the cast is really quiet but Hilary is so out going-she acts like she is crew person and tried to get everyone excited. Chad is also really nice. The rest of the cast seemed real nice but is pretty quiet and they don't talk really to the extras
