You mean on German TV? Yeah, it's very rare that a show or a film is subtitled on German TV. The audience just doesn't accept stuff with subtitles (only as an exception). If you want foreign films/shows to be successful in Germany there's no way around dubbing. For LB two well-known German comedians did the job - so it's pretty funny in German, too. I guess it's better with subtitles if you want to learn English... ^^ P.S. I have to go get myself a cup of coffee after watching your vid!

Well I hope I do, but lots of Germans don't - so we dub a lot of foreign films, shows and such. And before you tell me so - I know it's totally different in Sweden - you use subtitles and that's it. Believe me, I had this very discussion with people from Sweden, Norway, Denmark over and over ^^ BTW I liked the coffee vid on your channel I'm an addict myself ...

Brilliant film. My only problems with it are the pointless romance and love scenes and the fact that they used the same frickin actor as the 'German pilot' throughout the film. One moment he's a bomber captain. Then he's in a fighter. That one guy must have gotten shot down 50 times!!! With all the allied pilots, you'd think they could have had a bit more variety among the Luftwaffer!

Well up to a point, the Americans attempted a box formation with aircraft which were found to be ill-designed for it. Of course, almost all modifications made to aircraft will improve them, and whilst your right about them both competing in different arenas (eg. times of day) it would be impossible to make a fair comparison. I still believe the Lancaster outperformed the Fortress, even when taking into account their differing purposes. Many historians consider 'Flying Fortress' a misnomer.

I don't think you can make any meaningful comparison unless you put them side by side in the same arena. And right there, you realize you probably can't: One was used in night-bombing, and the other was used in daylight raids. Two very different venues. I will say I think each one was reasonably well designed to face the opposition it expected to face (if you allow for lessons learned by experience--a B-17G was certainly superior to a B-17D, for example...).

The lancaster has a much larger bomb load, but less armament. The B-17 was designed to be, literally, a 'flying fortress'. However, this name was found to be a misnomer. I would say the lancaster might edge it on that one.

this is hardly the place for a discussion on the English language, but I find it funny that CrudeDude expects everyone to pronounce words the same way. Language constantly changes in usage and pronounciation - witness the Americans changing the word 'borough' to burg - eg Pittsburg. By the way, I'm waiting for the people who made the earlier'racism' comments to rush to the defence of the lady introducing it. She can't help her Scottish accent. She was born that way, and we shouldn't judge...wow

Mm. True. True. But it is still pronounced incorrectly. The origin of the word is Hawaiian, is it not? It is pronounced differently, I was born and raised in the islands, I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to Ukulele. It is mispronounced so many times, she is just another example of someone who doesn't know how to pronounce the word correctly. Another word commonly mispronounced, Honolulu. When changed to 'Hanalulu' as many people call it, it has a different meaning.

Yep, it's an antenna. Radio I think. Good spot though! All of the footage for this film was 'in camera', real time, with real formations of Heinkels, real formations of Messerschmitts, and so on and so forth. A modified B25 was used for a lot of the shots, as well as the Heinkels, with animations used in post production for some of the explosions, combined with model work for the aircraft crashing / breaking up.

The canopy had an alarming tendency to jam under G-force on the Spitifre, so if your controls got stuck, you were pretty much gone for a Burton. The 109's hinged sideways, which isn't exactly ideal at high speed, and in both cases even if you managed to get the canopy off you still had to actually get yourself out of the plane without slamming into the tail. It's a lot harder than you'd think.
