I love that law. Dogs should have tails. America needs to catch up to all the UK and Australia and pass this law. Then people will not be surprised to hear that docked dogs are not allowed in competition, because all dogs will have tails as they deserve!

I was refused as a participant. I was selected for my country Belgium. Get a look at the official site of the WC. Every dog with no tail is welcome in your country, but they may not compete.

The whole argument that you try to grab the ears is just silly in my opinion. A dobermann doesn't have long spaniel ears, come on. If anything, by making them erect you leave long, erect tips to grab, instead of hanging ears close to the body ;) Do you have solid proof of natural ears being a problem, or are you just repeating something someone else has told you to defend cropping?

Did you know that a recent study showed that ear infections are the third most common reason for a vet visit in GSDs? If the erect ears are so good you'd think it'd be a much smaller problem, right? If you have a scienfitic study to back up your proof that cropping prevents ear infection I'd like to see it. I can back up mine.

Have you ever tryed to grab a GSD's Ears? LOL. It isn't very possable. The Doberman has long floppy ears that are much easer to get snagged what ever. Cropping the ears also helps prevent ear infection, because the ears get much better ventalation... I wouldn't recomend trying to grab a GSD/Malinois/Rottweilers neck eather. LOL. If you deside to try it, video it. I would like to know what happens. Maybe.

I never said a malinois was slow, i said a GSD is too slow for my taste. =) And yes, I know cropping has been illegal for that long in certain parts of Europe. My dad was the one with the schutzhund dogs, I merely did Conformation handling as a junior showman, and placed UDX's and OTCh's on the Dobies. My breed is the Border Collie. I have an awesome 2 year old BC who is quite the dog!

I very much doubt a malinois isn't as fast as dobe, they are extremely agile dogs, where I live they are hands down the most common choice for schutzhund :) Where I live, cropping has been illegal for about a half a century, and all dogs are still doing their jobs just fine. Same in Britain, where it's been illegal for a whole century now.

Well Mallinois and German Shepherds dont have veryyyy long ears like Dobies, It's just what I know about MY breed, the Doberman cause we bred them for years as schutzhund dogs.And there's a difference from a police dog, and a personal protection dog. I personally don't think GSDs are the best guard dogs. They're only used more cause of Versatility.

If we crop dog ears to prevent holding them, why don't they crop the ears of german shepherds, who are the most commonly kept police/service dog? Or belgian malinois? Or rottweilers? You'd think with their big erect ears GSDs would have perfect "grab ears". (Personally I gotta say, if I was attacked by a dog, the ears would be the last things I'd grab... easier to go for the dog's neck and hold it away from you, heheh)

I said it before. I am against docking of tails, not against dogs who have their tail docked. If you have a dog, that was born before docking was forbidden, you can not take away the sport you are playing. My dog was born and docked in 1999 and docking in Norway is forbidden since 2000.

Oh please, docking tails is almost entirely for cosmetic purposes only! Only a tiny minority of routinely cropped puppies become working dogs. Most are just regular pets who use their tails to communicate, and if a lab doesn't need to have his tail cut off to prevent injuries, then why would a cockerspaniel... The rules (that have been around for 7 yrs now) are the only way to stop docking. If you can't take part in any event with a docked dog, you might think again before buying it.

What a horrible rule. Whether you're against or for docking and cropping, that fact shouldn't disallow you from competing in a fun-based dog SPORT event. It's sad that those amazing teams (They were so fast!) weren't able to compete because these people can't have an open mind.
