Il rap è espressione di una situazione difficile (spesso di povertà) e di volontà di riscattarsi da un mondo di merda. I've just discovered these great videos of classic jazz musicians- how awesome to SEE Coltrane and others playing, 40 years after he died (in '67 of liver cancer at age 40). We see him playing soprano sax here, which he began to record and perform with around 1960, continuing w/ the tenor sax as well. He had switched from alto to tenor at about age 21 when he joined a band with another alto player, the leader Eddie Vinson.

well for starters the swinging of notes is actually just a shortened version of writing different rhythms, more closer to 12/8 then 4/4 or whatever you use. it is really just simpler to read 4/4 and say the notes "swing". another thing, however you want to play the music, cool, as long as it sounds good. i didnt really even hear a swing anyways so...

i saw him as well, he passed away soon after that. He was definitely on his deathbed, but at least he was drumming until the end...it must have sustained his spirits and helped him out.
