Hmm...The Who did some good stuff, but I don't think Townsend would claim to be a guitar virtuoso. Great songwriter though, I agree. I would add that Thin Lizzy were mainly Anglo-Irish. Only Gorham, to my knowledge, was American.

i disagree with them being the most musically adept hard-rock band of their time, i would think the who were because they used all the effects and they wrote the first rock opera. but i would say thin lizzy is the most musically adept hard-rock band from america.

Perhaps the most musically adept of all the hard-rock bands of the era. I've been playing guitar for thirty years and I still can't nail this! And Scott Gorham (rhythm guitar) deserves far more praise than he's ever got.
